Connie came into our care with her five tiny kittens after she was found trying to find shelter in a garden. She had chosen wisely as the garden belonged to nice people who, rather than chase her as some people do, opened up their garage in the hope she would take her babies in out of the pouring rain. At first, Connie was so determined to protect her babies that she wouldn’t let me handle them and it took her a while to believe that  I had no intention of harming them or her. Without a doubt, Connie had good reason from past experience to believe her kittens were in danger from humans. It’s also clear that Connie came from a domestic situation and that may be a clue as to why she was so protective – it wasn’t a good domestic situation! Had it been, she would hardly have found herself in the situation she was in with her newborn kittens. Once she did realise she was safe, Connie’s true nature began to shine through and now she’s just lovely and likes to be fussed and petted. Connie deserves to find a good home with kind and decent people (this time) and to put all the bad memories well behind her. She’s not crazy about other cats but isn’t aggressive with them either. She’ll smack Amber’s kittens out of her way but doesn’t actually harm them – think of tenement living in Glasgow in the 50s when it was okay to give the neighbours’ weans a row when they stepped out of line without being accused of child abuse. Connie has, of course, been spayed now so no more babies for her and has also been microchipped and is fully vaccinated. A home with a garden to explore would be perfect for her!
